A prevention centre to support both providers and patients to deliver the best cardiovascular prevention education and care.
Our goal is to improve the overall health of those living with, and at risk for, cardiovascular disease.

In Canada, and internationally, gaps in care exist in preventive cardiology.
We know people living with high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and renal impairment are at high risk for cardiovascular diseases. There are also sex-specific risk factors that are under-recognized, including gestational diabetes and hypertension, and menopause.
To address this need, in 2021, in partnership with Unity Health Toronto and the University of Toronto, Dr. Beth Abramson created a “first in Canada” academic, intra-disciplinary cardiometabolic prevention clinic at St. Michael’s Hospital.
The clinic, which is part of the larger centre, provides complimentary preventive care in coordination with primary care physicians and specialists to improve care for patients ‘at risk’ and those with established cardiovascular disease.
The aim of the Cardiometabolic Prevention Centre is to:
- Improve care for patients ‘at risk’ and those with established cardiovascular disease; and
- Educate trainees and healthcare providers in preventive cardiology by initiating evidence-based and guideline-directed therapy.
